Last day in Iceland…for a while :)

Yesterday was a great. In the morning I packed all the clothes, while Sam did some more work. Then we had a meeting about Sam working in Iceland full time. We plan to go back over there on 5th November. We have left half of our clothes in Iceland which saves bringing them back again. I [...]

Back home…

Landed at 12.45pm all safe and sound…it sounds strange but I miss Iceland already..could be because of the beautiful scenery or because of the nice people we met. We felt so welcomed and looked after. Óðinn is an amazing person, I feel lucky to have met him…and I´m glad he wasn´t just a pigment of Sams imagination :p It [...]

Fording a stream

Hello today we had a lie in which was nice! For breakfast we drove into Hella and went to the supermarket and bought a couple of muffins. Oðinn picked us up at 1pm with his wife and daughter. First we went to an old Icelandic farm which was interesting, as you can see in the [...]

Dinner with Odinn

Óðinn and Jónella invited us round for dinner. I drove there at 5.30…After we nearly ran out of petrol, couldn’t get a hold of Óðinn and there was no one at SCS. We thought we were not going to be able to get to their house. However, we did get hold of Odinn at 5 o’clock [...]

Sam and Yaz the explorers :D

This morning we had coffee with Sveinn, where he gave us a map and circled places we should visit. We asked how long it would take to get to these places and he said ‘not long..about 1 hour..very short distance!’ I got a tiny bit scared because of driving but the roads in Iceland are straight [...]

Dinner with the boss followed by Northern Lights

We were invited round to Sveinns house to dinner at 7.30. This was really interesting, when we arrived he said he had only just got back from Reykjavik so he hadnt started the dinner. He put on a dvd with pictures from all over Iceland on while he cooked which was very interesting. When it [...]

I was given a car to drive today! In the snow as well! It is a Subaru Impreza. It was very strange as when I first got into the car I was thinking ‘ok handbrake and gear stick on the right..’ and then reached for the handbrake on my left :S Not a good start! However once I [...]

Snow

Góðan dag! Which is Good morning! Woke up this morning to a blanket of snow, which was exciting! It feels like we have seen what Iceland is like. We had breakfast at 8am it was very cold to walk across from the apartment to the headquarters. Jón said it will be warmer today than yesterday [...]

Temperature -2 degrees!

We went down to breakfast at 7.45am. We sat by Jón and he taught us how to say good morning in Icelandic. He says we have the knack! He then showed us the website and Sam offered to help him with it. I was left by myself most of the day but it was nice [...]

Our first day in Iceland!

Óðinn met with us for breakfast and then showed us around Gunnarsholt. This morning we were invited to a conference about the LRT. A scheme where six students from all over the world had studied at the Soil Conservation Service to learn about soil deprivation and ways in which they could improve it. It was [...]
