This is a blog is about me (Rhiannon) and Sam (my fiancé) in Iceland. Sam got offered a job here. How does that happen? I hear you ask. Well…

Sam ran his own business in creating web sites; he is a bit of a computer nerd. One day he couldn’t do something he wanted so he asked a question in an online forum. He was answered by a man named Óðinn Burkni, from Iceland. Óðinn Burkni helped Sam with his computer problem, as he is a computer nerd also , they added each other on MSN and for six months they helped each other with all sorts of computer related problems. Early October 2008 Óðinn Burkni mentioned to Sam that there was a job going at his place of work (Soil Conservation of Iceland) and asked if Sam would be interested. The job had been available for several months. Sam told me about the possibility and I was already mentally packed and ready to go. Nothing was decided for a few weeks…whilst Sam and I did research, (mainly making sure this Óðinn Burkni wasn’t a con man) and waiting for Óðinns boss to get back off of holiday. On a sunny Friday afternoon Sam got a phone call off of Óðinn to say that everyone would like to meet him for an interview…in Iceland. Friday evening we had our flights booked for the following Tuesday. Looking back…that’s a bit crazy! It all happened really fast…which I guess is a good thing otherwise we might have thought too much about it.

After a week-long interview in Iceland, meeting everyone and having a quick look at the country, Sam was offered the job. Four weeks later, on 5th November 2008, we said goodbye to our families and moved to the land of ice.

This blog is for everyone to see what we are doing while we are away. I shall write about what we do, things we see, post pictures, tell you my thoughts and sometimes just write about nothing. I hope you find it interesting and will learn something about this amazing country.
